My four wisdom teeth were taken out on Friday. I guess that makes me an idiot now.

We arrived at the hospital shortly after 6 AM, but they only did the operation at about 10. Before he put me under, the anesthesiologist had a little chat with me. When he heard my accent he asked where in America I was from, and I said California. He says he loves California – he’s been scuba diving off San Diego. He talked about the big kelp forests down there. He’s also been diving in the Florida Keys.

I’m recovering from the operation pretty well – I didn’t swell up much, I didn’t experience much pain, and I didn’t bleed or bruise at all, which I’m very thankful for. Most people look like chipmunks, but if you saw me you’d just take me for some chubby kid.

I just saw this car in the Library Gardens this morning. Who in the remote, blue-collar town of Polokwane, South Africa would own such a car? Probably a government official, like an MP. Those guys make tons of honest money, and usually steal more.

It’s a brand new (notice, no plates) 911 Carrera 4S. Man does it look nice – it’s the first time I’ve ever seen a 911 in person! While I was checking it out the owner came over. He was an amiable guy and we got to talking. He looked to be in his early 50’s, so that does put him in the right age group of a rich government official.

What surprised me was that he hardly knew anything about his car. Apparently he just went shopping and, without doing any research, just sprung for what looked best to him at the time (but I must say it was a good choice). He thought the “4″ meant a 4-liter engine, and that the engine was a V-6! I didn’t bother to tell him that the “4″ stands for 4 wheel drive (the engine is 3.8 liters) and that the engine is not a V-6, but a flat-6.

Oh and since you didn’t look at the engine to see what kind it was, it’s at the back of the car, just in case you got confused when opening the hood. Sheesh.

Even more excitement and wonder: Spotted! Bentley Continental GT

The first Formula 1 race of the season was earlier today in Australia. I watched the whole thing; it was great! Here’s how it ended up:

  1. Lewis HamiltonMcLaren-Mercedes
  2. Nick HeidfeldBMW
  3. Nico RosbergToyota (Williams)
  4. Fernando AlonsoRenault
  5. Heikki Kovalainen – McLaren-Mercedes
  6. Kazuki Nakajima – Toyota (Williams)
  7. Everyone else – they all retired (i.e. crashed or engine failure, etc)
  8. Rubens BarrichelloHonda (DSQ for exiting pits under red light)

Amazing, isn’t it? 22 drivers started the race. Only 7 finished, and one of them was disqualified (Barrichello)!

Lewis Hamilton put on a stunning performance. He dominated the whole way through. He even said it was his best race ever, and he’s had quite a few great ones. He qualified first, and it was no surprise that he won.

You may be surprised to not see any Ferraris in the finishing order above. They both went out. First it was Felipe Massa, who bumped David Coulthard. Coulthard went flying, and Massa’s left front suspension was all messed up. So ended his day.

Kimi Raikkonen, last year’s champion, had a bad weekend all around. He only qualified 16th, but in the race he made up for it and was having a great battle with Kovalainen for second. But when Raikkonen saw a chance to pass, he went in too hot and too shalow in a corner and careened into the gravel, while everybody passed him. He spun again later in the race, and his engine died shortly after.

Being a Lewis Hamilton fan, I’m really happy with the outcome. His new teammate Kovalainen showed up strongly, too. I wonder if Ferrari has reliability problems again this year; no Ferrari-powered car finished this race.

I set a record

The record is that I haven’t posted in over 1/4 of a year. I wasn’t trying to set this record. Up until now, this blog hadn’t been dry for longer than one month.

I don’t really know why I didn’t post, but I just didn’t.

In early December, Timothy, Kimberly and myself went with our church’s youth group to summer camp. Summer camp in December? I’m in the southern hemisphere, remember. Anyway, It was good and I don’t have time to write all about it but you can read about it on Timothy’s blog.

Oh yeah I started playing guitar a few months ago. It’s really fun – I enjoy it a lot – and I got an acoustic guitar for Christmas. It’s not hard to learn; maybe that’s because I already know how to play the piano. My acoustic guitar is a Cort (by Ibanez – don’t know if you have them in the states). I was given an awesome electric guitar a few weeks ago – a Gibson SG Special (in black)! Ever since I saw the SG style I knew there’s nothing better – you can argue about your Strats, Teles, Les Pauls or RGs -but the SG looks amazing. And to have one made by Gibson, well, you know there’s nothing better. It has aftermarket EMG 81/60 pickups. Love the 81 – it’s insane – and the 60 balances it out really well, I can play any style of music.

Anyway, all the other stuff has pretty much just been school and hanging out with friends as usual. I must say, I Am Legend was a great movie. I’m gonna get the DVD when it comes out.

Timothy turned 16 on November 6. He really wanted a new cellphone so that’s what he got. He was expecting something relatively inexpensive, but we gave him a big surprise: the Nokia N70 smartphone. I used to think that my phone was pretty cool, but it pales in comparison to his.

Christmas is coming, and near the top of Kimberly’s list is an iPod nano – one of the new super extra ultra mega thin ones. That reminds me, Apple’s new operating system is out now. It must be pretty slick.

Well my fantasy football team isn’t doing too badly. I’m 6-3 and I think I’ll win this week. T. O. and Randy Moss are really paying off for me. I’m really disappointed in my 49ers, though. Darn it! Our defense is good but our offence can’t put points on the board. Norv Turner, why did you leave?! We need a new offensive coordinator.
