I’m now an old hand at blogging. Exactly a year ago I started my blog “American South African” on Blogger. Yes, that qualifies me as an old timer. The average blog lasts only, what, 2 posts? And then it seems to be forgotten.

Back to Blogger. I started my blog as soon as I heard there was such a thing. I was pretty eager to get started, so I didn’t do much research. I searched on Google and of course Blogger came up first, but I also checked out some of the other heavy hitters like Myspace and Xanga. I didn’t even know WordPress existed at the time.

I ended up with Blogger, because I detest the abundence of advertisements and the unsophisticated style of the other two. The thing that I hated the most, however, is that you have to be a logged in member to comment.

I switched to WordPress for one reason. It takes an insanely long time for a post you wrote to show up on the blog (at least it did then). One time I wrote a post about a trip to Durban and it didn’t show up until a week later. I found out about WordPress and liked what I read. So I switched to WordPress in July and I’m not planning on moving for the rest of my life. When I die I hope to be up there with the longest lasting blogs of all time (I’m 16 now).
